Unimed-Rio transfere mais 107 mil usuários de planos de saúde para a Federação das Unimeds do Rio de Janeiro em meio a crise financeira

Unimed-Rio, a healthcare provider in Rio de Janeiro, is facing a severe economic and financial crisis. In an effort to address this situation, the company will transfer an additional 107,000 users of individual, membership, and corporate health plans to the Federation of Unimeds of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FERJ). Previously, about 73,000 beneficiaries had already been transferred in July and earlier this month. The accumulated loss in the first semester of this year reached R$ 840 million.

The transfer of users will include contracts for both individual customers and companies located outside of the cities of Rio de Janeiro or Duque de Caxias but within the state of Rio de Janeiro. This means that for those within these two regions, there will be no changes.

According to a statement from Unimed-Rio, the transfer of a portion of its customer base is part of its strategy to restore economic and financial balance. It should be noted that this transfer is being conducted in collaboration with other cooperatives within the Unimed System, with the Federation of Unimeds of the State of Rio de Janeiro playing a major role.

Unimed-Rio emphasized that the migration of customers had been submitted to and approved by the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) for approximately 180,000 customers with individual, corporate, and membership contracts under the conditions mentioned earlier (residency or current CNPJ outside the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias). According to the operator, the transfers are being carried out gradually, in stages, throughout the second semester.

Unimed-Rio assured that all contracted conditions will remain in effect, with the only change being the management of the contract by a different cooperative. Additionally, the health plan identification card will be changed and renewed, “without any additional changes or disadvantages to the beneficiaries”. Moreover, the operator informed that “customers included in each migration phase receive targeted communications with the necessary instructions and information about the change”.

In addition to the transfer of health plan users, Unimed-Rio has also released R$ 130.6 million from technical reserves held in financial investments. According to the newspaper Valor Econômico, this amount corresponds to 45% of the funds that Unimed-Rio had set aside as collateral to cover future medical procedures. All health plan operators are required to have short and long-term collateral assets to be used in case of bankruptcy.

For those who have questions or concerns, the article provides a section of frequently asked questions (FAQs) that address various topics related to the transfer, such as who will be transferred, the obligations of the receiving party, the need to sign a new contract, the network of healthcare providers, and the payment of the plan.

Lastly, the article reminds readers that they can contact the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) for assistance in case of difficulties in obtaining services from the new provider through various channels, including an online form and a dedicated helpline for people with hearing impairments.
